Tell us a bit about yourself? Animal Bar are an indie rock band formed by a group of mates (George, Jack, Harry and Liam) who all attended Ivybridge Community College, near Plymouth, Devon. We all consume a lot of music, and each have independent tastes which add different flavors to our overall sound. From the Black Keys, to Radiohead. From Tool to The Smiths.
There are a lot of emerging Artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest? We all learned our respective instruments at a similar rate, starting off as using casual jam sessions as a way of testing what we've learnt in a relaxed atmosphere, before inevitably deciding to turn it into a more focused project. Because we've only ever played with one another, we have formed an almost telepathic connection musically. As well as being great friends, our friendship has become stronger through playing and listening to music together.
What’s you back-story? Our progression towards writing our own music was an extremely fluent and natural process. It was not rushed in any way. We started off just jamming and covering our favourite songs, until we felt comfortable enough to start writing our own songs.
What are you working on at the moment? We're planning on releasing our Debut EP before the year ends. Which should be followed by a tour of Southern England. (We could go further north if we can afford it!)
What's the first song you remember hearing? Yellow Submarine- The Beatles. I can't remember how old I was, but the imagery which came into my head at the time still pops up in my consciousness today. Pretty cool. (Jack)
You're in a Karaoke Bar - What's your go to song? Igniton- R Kelly
What was the first gig you went to? Plan B- Plymouth Pavilions. Rubbish venue.
Which song do you wish you'd written? In the Aeroplane Over the Sea- Neutral Milk Hotel. It just sums up how weird life is pretty well, but also in a really sweet way.
Which song changed your life? Let Down- Radiohead. Made my grunge obsessed mind realize that a great song doesn't necessarily need distorted guitars or a catchy hook.
Which song would you like played at your funeral? I'm Only Sleeping. The Beatles. I'm (Jack) notoriously lazy and love a lie in. Plus it sounds quite poignant when it comes to death.
What song is stuck in your head right now?Dum Surfer- King Krule. Heard it on Jools last night, great tune.
What was the first Album you bought? American Idiot- Green Day
Which song made you want to play music? The Man Who Sold The World- Nirvana/Bowie.
