Tell us a bit about yourself? We are Bang Bang Club, a three piece band from Sheffield. We formed in 2017 but the three of us have been in bands since the age of about 11! We thought we'd seen the last of our days as a band a few years when Jake the singer went of to Australia and didn't look like coming back. Anyway he did and now the band are back as well. We play energetic rock and roll music. There's nothing fancy about our sound, we just play what we can manage to put together but to be honest it's how we like it. We all got in to guitar music at about the same time. We were 10 years old and some how we all developed an obsession for Manic Street Preachers, which meant our first band from about 11 to 16 was basically a Manics cover band! After that our music tastes expanded (a bit). It sounds too obvious but The Beatles are always a big influence in the way that they were open to making every kind of music. Being from Sheffield, another obvious influence is Arctic Monkeys. We were about 12 or 13 when they got to number one with dancefloor and it's fair to say we were completely jealous. We couldn't admit how good they were for a while and even now it is quite annoying how they have such a knack for just writing great songs!
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest? I think we just want to be a great rock and roll band. To be honest we're not into social media and all that stuff that comes with being in a band now (though we have to do it) we just want to write songs and play gigs. We're also unique we hope, because where as in the past with the band we had almost like rules around what the music should be, but now if it sounds good anything goes! We have a sax solo in our song "If The Sun Fell" which would never have happened a few years ago.
What’s your back-story? We always write the music first because that's the part we really enjoy and it the whole reason we do it. It's good when it comes together at a rehearsal and you almost can't help but smile because it's bloody exciting! Then you just feel a bit daft. The lyrics are a bit like the homework part for us, always done at the last minute. Some of the lyrics are just things that have happened to us where as others seem to be going about something on a bigger scale, or at least they try to.
What are you working on at the moment? Recording again in over the next few months and just getting out and about as much as we can.
