Tell us a bit about yourself? Formed in a north London basement in late ‘17 Ceylon Ceylon constitutes two young professionals who use music to escape from daily life.
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest? We take inspiration from world music, vintage soul (Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Daptone records) and modern electronic music (Jamie XX, Jungle) and blend these into a cohesive pop sound. As the name implies, their musical philosophy revolves around travel; taking listeners on a journey both through musical styles and emotionally from the dark towards the light.
What’s your back-story? We both met at university. We both used to work on the weekends playing tunes in some way. I used to play in covers bands, and Josh used to DJ so we could get some extra cash. We always had the idea of combining both the musical backgrounds we came from, but because we needed the money we did our own thing for a while and then came back together once our lives had gotten going to finally make the music we'd thought about making in university.
What are you working on at the moment? We've recently finished our 1st EP and we'll be releasing it over the next 4-5 months. It's a short EP but in the meantime we're going to writing and recording our second EP and will be dropping some one off's and collaborations in and amongst the snippets of the EP we release over the summer.
