I'm not really sure what to write here to be honest. Dan Pigeon is my solo project that I've started. I've just turned 18 and I'm currently balancing my a levels with doing all my music stuff, but actually making music has been one of the only things I've felt properly passionate about doing. I want to create an atmosphere for people that they can relate to on an emotional level and it's important to me that I'm creating actual art rather than just squeezing out stuff that I'm certain people would like to listen to.
I take inspiration from a whole range of genres (mainly jazz and a lot alternative lofi/antifolk stuff e.g. Daniel Johnston, Spook Houses) and I think it's so important to listen to more than just a few bands as a musician. I grew up on a lot of my dad's music, and he's got me into some really cool stuff (Radiohead, Talking Heads, a lot of 60s/70s rock n roll stuff). Me and my brother have always been super close and we've always had each other to bounce off and show new music to. He's got me into a lot of math rock stuff and has showed me a lot of great hardcore music. I think it's really cool that we're able to play together as a band. We've only played a few shows so far (shoutout Tom, Marcus, and Harry) but they're going quite well. I'm pretty keen on making shows interesting and even quite punky and high energy at times.
I produce, write and play all the music I release and it's been a really enjoyable journey so far. Teaching myself to use programmes has been a real learning curve and I've still got so far to go. My production isn't amazing but that's actually quite important to me - I think it adds some authenticity to it.
I've released my ep on the 5th January this year, which has been really scary but so exciting. I worked really hard on it and as much as I have a love/hate relationship with the quality of music I make, I'm actually kinda proud of it which is a big step for me. I'm currently working on some new stuff for (most probably) a second ep. It's important to me that I keep changing things up and evolving as an artist, so watch out for whatever I release next - probably gonna take a midwest emo-esque turn at some point.
Shoutout to the NN10 NOISE CLUB.
