Edie Bens is a Welsh, Brighton based Indie Americana Artist. Who has a growing reputation as one of Brighton most exciting emerging artist.
Known to friends as El, she began writing songs as a rebellion from the classical music lessons taught at her primary school and the music sung in the chamber choir she grew up in.
After being told by a violin teacher at the age of 8 "you are not musical maybe you should play a sport."
she felt the revenge appropriate would be teaching herself piano and guitar instead which led to penning her first songs about school crushes and the Twilight characters.
Combining folk and Americana influences she was exposed to through her fathers collection of records with hearty pop melodies of her mothers mixtapes, her heartfelt and honest music was first noticed by the producers of ITV’s ‘This Morning,' where, at the age of 16, one of her songs was aired on live television, with host Philip Schofield noting her as 'one to watch’.
A few years on and a few heartbreaks later after finishing school, Edie moved to Brighton from the small Welsh city of Swansea to pursue Music.
In late 2018 Bens' formed her live band which consists of Joe Hall, Rob Whitehead, Matt Boyes, and Eve Singleton and they're now gigging regularly.
With live experience at festivals including last years ‘The Great Escape’ in Brighton, a hot-bed for emerging talent in the industry and radio support from bbc radio Wales.
2019 clearly has a lot in store for this bright young starlet, Including the release of her first live single The First One which was filmed and recorded in St Andrews Church in Brighton. A nostalgic account of teenage angst with a bitter twist the live single will be followed by other tracks this spring and announcements of summer festival slots.
