Tell us a bit about yourself?
Im a 26 year old Singer songwriter from a small city in the south of England. I moved to London 3 years ago to give myself a wider perspective on life, to broaden my opportunities and to inspire and elevate my first love; making music. Being brought up in England with African American/Native American roots has driven my connection to the soul of the music i make. This has led to an eclectic music taste, which is reflected in my Influences including Michael Jackson, Stevie wonder, SZA and Amy Winehouse.
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest?
I think each person has a different journey which varies through different experiences. I watch and intake the external world consistently every day, understand the pain and the beauty that comes from it. I try to internalise and channel it into my music. I think maybe for me my unique edge is being able to cross over commercially, but to also to be able to create music that resonates with people on a human and honest level. Being the product of different cultures, and going through a lot of personal pain from a young age has allowed me to reflect, grow and share empathetically in my music.
What’s your back-story?
Although I wrote my first song at the age of 11 I guess I started my real journey in terms of writing as a way of therapy back in 2012. After a hard break up I was left heartbroken. I used all the pain I had to put together my first un official EP ' Conquer' through this I found so much solace and was the first time I felt my music was becoming relatable on a deeper level.
What are you working on at the moment?
Having recently collaborated with artists such as Foor and Dots Per Inch on dance tracks, a genre which I love, I'm now writing, curating and working with different producers and writers towards a solid body of work for my solo project that most reflects me as an artist. I really can't wait to get it all out there and share with people.
What's the first song you remember hearing?
As a child my parents would have a lot of Soul and Motown being played around the house and I have an early memory of 'It's a Shame' - The Spinners
You're in a Karaoke Bar - What's your go to song?
Hmmm I would say - 'Dreams' - Fleetwood Mac
What was the first gig you went to?
The first gig I went to was to watch my Dad play in the 60's band 'Dave dee Dozy Beaky Mitch and Tich' - My Dad being a musician has aways been a big inspiration for me and seeing him sing and play drums on stage solidified me wanting a career sharing and performing my own music.
Which song do you wish you'd written?
This is a really tough question ... I would have to say SZA - 'Supermodel' It's one of those songs that really resonates with me.
Which song changed your life?
Roy Ayers - 'Everybody Loves the Sunshine'
Which song would you like played at your funeral?
Hard one but... 'As' - Stevie Wonder
What song is stuck in your head right now?
Friendly Fires - 'Love Like Waves'. Im a huge Friendly Fires fan and they have recently brought this new single out and I've had it on repeat this last week.
What was the first Album you bought? I can't remember the first album I ever bought but I remember the first album bought for me - 'Dangerous' Michael Jackson.
Which song made you want to play music?
Ahhhh again this is hard! So many have for different reasons but I would have to say the first song that made me wanna make music was Michael Jackson - 'Remember the Time' I was around 3 years old and my Nanna had bought me 'Dangerous' to play on the walkman my parents had given me. I remember distinctively how that song made me feel, how in love with music I became and from there I was involved.
