Learn more about me
NME: Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself
El’tee: Born in the cultural melting pot of Hackney, East London I was brought up listening to my father’s love of soul music, my dad, himself a successful artist in the 90's was a major influence and reason for myself picking up a mic.
You could say music and singing ran through my blood, through dad I was introduced to professional recording at the tender age of 13.
I self-taught myself a unique style of singing and rapping (with a little help from dad!) by listening to vocalists like Chris Brown, Frank Ocean and various underground American artists in the Rap scene.
NME: There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest?
El’tee: What sets me apart from everyone else is the way I carry myself and how I make people feel the way I feel while performing on stage. Listening to my music I want my fans to feel like they are experiencing a breath of fresh air as I bring something different like it’s soft but grimey and it's not to romantic but its deep and raw, I feel like my music appeals to everyone.
NME: Why do your fans relate to you so much?
My music draws on personal life experiences of good and happy times with friends, mixed with story's of my musical journey and growing up as a young person in modern society. Ultimately I want to bring about positivity and be a role model for others who want to achieve their dreams.
My fans relate to me because I am someone just trying to achieve my dreams and not listen to people telling me no, "I’m so passionate about my music and even the culture that people see that and I’m honoured".
El’tee: I feel like the people who know me and are fans know my style and what I bring but I love nothing more than performing to a new crowd and seeing a reaction that’s always positive and hella real, people always say to me they feel my stuff and can relate whether it’s me explaining a break up or talking about providing for my family.
NME: What are you working on at the moment?
I'm currently in the studio working with veteran songwriter/producer Martin West (Romans, Estelle, Street Politiks, Koercive, Black Ice) in order to deliver a collection of songs to the highest order, gigs are always on the go so you need to find me via my socials @thisiseltee
