I'm Gareth Heesom, a singer/songwriter from Runcorn, Cheshire. I'm an acoustic artist who draws influence from a wide variety of other artists, I was once described as a cross between Bob Dylan and Bon Jovi. My major influences are Don Williams, The Beatles, Nirvana, George Benson, Billy Joel, Gil Landry, Ralph McTell, Chris Stapleton. I love story telling songs, I love emotion sharing songs.
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest? I'm older than most, I lost music for a long time, but found my way back, better late than never.
What’s your back-story? My old life fell apart from the inside out, music brought me back. In my song broken man, I talk about being brought down by the weight of my past, the masks I wore, the hiding smiles. But, those times make me appreciate these times, so much more.
What are you working on at the moment? I've just released my first single, which is also for Charity. A Million Butterflies is a song which looks at native american folklore and the wish to be with lost loved ones just one more time. I have an EP in the pipeline, which I'm hoping to have out in the next 6 months or so.
What's the first song you remember hearing? Probably The Beatles, I Want To Hold Your Hand. My dad was always playing the casettes (Yes, I'm THAT old)
You're in a Karaoke Bar - What's your go to song? Tough one this, I think it all depends on my mood. Probably one of the following Alright Now - Free Take On Me - Aha Fly Me To The Moon - Sinatra
What was the first gig you went to? That will be the first V-Festival in Warrington, Pulp, Supergrass and Cast. Great day with some great friends.
Which song do you wish you'd written? Oh Eck, so many. John Legend, All Of Me. It is such a simply brilliant song. First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, the ultimate love song.
Which song changed your life? Nirvana, Man Who Sold The World, from their MTV unplugged session. It made me want to learn to play guitar.
Which song would you like played at your funeral? I'm not that old, yet. Maybe a little tongue in cheek with Hank Williams, I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive
What song is stuck in your head right now?Hank Williams, I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive
What was the first Album you bought? Either Michael Jackson or Madness, I loved both as a kid (still do) I would have said Dire Straits, but I just stole my dads copy
Which song made you want to play music? As above, The Man Who Sold The World, from the Nirvana MTV Unplugged album, the feeling was cemented by other songs from that session. About A Girl and Where Did You Sleep Last Night.
