Singer/songwriter/producer/DJ and crystal sound alchemist, JENJEN, weaves eclectic vocals on a bed of neo-soul trip-hop, dub, broken breaks and ethnic percussion, laced with haunting strings, crystal singing bowls, whalesong and sounds from the natural world.
JENJEN’s music has been compared to Portishead, Thom Yorke, Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins), Enya, Kate Bush, early Massive Attack, Sandy Denny, Joan Baez, Natasha Atlas, Joni Mitchell, Melanie, and Aphex Twin!
JENJEN’s new album CRYSTAL OCEAN, is a fusion of triphop, dub, folk, breaks and sprinkles of jazz. The album was mixed and mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London, and features Maxine Venton (Fat Panthers), Craig R NInjah (Hang Massive), Kev Hutch (NY's finest!), Frank Wilson and Tim Gallagher... Due out on Contact Media on Dec 21st.
JENJEN co-produced and sang with her previous band Snipe, who were rated by John Peel, coveted by 4AD before their split in 2003, and quoted as being the 'next best thing to come out of Bristol after Massive Attack and Portishead’ (Logo mag 2003).
She has sung with Peewee Ellis (James Brown band), The O’Roonies, and the Avalonian Free State Choir.
JENJEN ran her own Internet radio show, The RIP for 6 years with Coldcut’s PirateTV, and made appearances on BBC Radio, Ujima Radio, BCFM, Dialect, Passion and Galaxy Radio.
Aka DJ Mis-chief, JENJEN, one of few female DJ's in the 90's, has played alongside some of the world’s finest DJ’s, including Grandmaster Flash, Daddy Gee, the Freestylers and Scratch Perverts. She was resident at Hardcore Heaven, Big Love, Bristol Exposure, Helter Skelter, Mad Tommys (which she co-promoted), Yeyo & Radical Rehousing in Amsterdam.
