Learn more about me
Tell us a bit about yourself? We are Kanadia, an Alternative Rock band based In Oxford, UK. Our main influences are bands like Radiohead and Foals, both coincidentally Oxford bands! But there are a ton of others such as My Morning Jacket, Kings Of Leon, Beach House, TV On The Radio... the list could go on forever. We love bands who aren't completely planted in one genre. Its so exciting to follow the careers of bands like these, its impossible to guess what direction they might take. That is something that we are striving to do. Always progress and mix it up. The quality of the music and the artists belief in what they are doing should come above all else.
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest? We aren't a band who tend to follow trends, nor are we a band who wish to remain in the past. We have always been focused on our goal and our vision of what we want to be. We have often been likened to bands like Muse and praised for our "stadium size" sound. We like riffs and big choruses, but there is a delicate side to our sound too. Kanadia has a long history, half our upcoming album was written pent up in a seaside town in Devon. The other half was written on the road travelling from London to Sydney Overland, where we met our manager! We can remember plotting out our music plans in Tibet.
What’s your back-story? A lot of the songs were written over many years growing up in Devon. There is a lot of emotion in them. The songs touch on themes of isolation, depression , confusion and hopelessness. All very relatable feelings that most people have to endure sometimes in life. Once we relocated to Oxford things started to happen for the band and some of the songs took on a more positive form. Lyrically they are still a bit dark, but we feel you can really hear the positive change in the music.
What are you working on at the moment? We have recently completed our debut album set for release in early 2019. On August 1st we dropped our first single 'VX'. In its first week it made it on to 2 Spotify editorial playlists. Which we are really excited about. Over the next 6 months we will be keeping our fans busy with consistent releases and music videos. Its taken a lot of work to get to this point but now we are really excited to share what we have created with everyone!
