Koko Clay is a cool combination of Futuristic soul, R&B, funky inspirations and stylish pop. As well as being a talented vocalist she is also a songwriter, producer and a dancer. Until now, the self proclaimed "Nubian Disco Queen" and "DIY princess" has been on a musical journey, but she is now
ready to show off her talent.
Originally from Reims, in the East side of France, Clay comes from a Congolese background. After 4 years making a name for herself in the parisian scene, she decides to leave everything behind and move to London in 2013 to pursue her musical career. In a recent interview she mentionned the "limitations and lack of understanding and opportunity female black musicians face in the french music industry" and expressed her love of the British capital and "the attractiveness of such a diverse and musically creative city like London "
With her first buzz single, "I can't love you back" released in April 2013 under the name "Koreen Clay" and produced by famous french electronic producer DJ LBR, Koko has shown her desire to put her music in an unfamiliar territory, different from what is on our radios today.
With the release of the self produced/written "In the dark" earlier in September 2017, Clay signs a major turn in her musical journey and affirms an artistic independence, herself being a big supporter of entrepreneurial women in the music industry.
The song is highly inspired by today's Futuristic and soulful artists such as Nao, The weekend, Solange and more. Popular music magazine Indie Shuffle called the track a "Vibrant soul pop number with a foot tapping melody, and vocals alluring and alternate from quick fire delivery to soaring harmonies".
The song is a depiction of the confusing process of facing the reality and the complexity of our modern love stories.
Her indeniable, energetic stage presence as well as her noticeable and flamboyant sense of style has caught the attention of audiences all around the world. She has had the opportunity to headline several shows in London, Paris, Spain and Germany, just to name a few.
She is now working on her self produced EP, describing it as something that will intrigue your mind and is very unique.
