Madrid-born Matias Malagardis is a 19-year old singer songwriter, who walks in the footsteps of Ben Howard, Jack Johnson and Novo Amor, with his mellow, melodic, acoustic-pop songs. In love with the surf culture, his music is highly influenced by the feelings and peace the sea transmits. His songs are calming and emotive, compelling you to sit down and listen: “Why don’t you leave, the city where you’ve died, come find me at the line, where the two blues meet” – Matias Malagardis.
- What’s your back-story?
I wrote my track 'Forget' during a time when I was in love with someone who didn't love me anymore. I could see how she had already moved on and I was still thinking and dreaming about her every day. However, writing 'Forget' and seeing my words on paper made me realize that I didn't really love her no more, but what was taking my sleep was the thought of her forgetting me. Every song in my upcoming EP has a deep back-story that I feel everyone can relate to. We'll see:)
- What are you working on at the moment?
On May 13, 2018 I released 'Forget', the first single of my upcoming EP 'Winter By The Sea' which is coming out in October. Before that, my next single 'My Kind Of Blue' is coming out June 3, 2018
- What's the first song you remember hearing?
That's a difficult question. I'd say a Spanish song that most of you probably won't know that's called 'Moriria Por Vos' by Amaral.
- You're in a Karaoke Bar - What's your go to song?
I'm sorry to say that I've never sang at a Karaoke :(
- What was the first gig you went to?
The first one I decided to go, and tried as hard as possible to convince my mum to go was John Mayer at Mountain View, CA. It was one of the best moments of my life.
- Which song do you wish you'd written?
Everything by Ben Howard. I remember who showed it to me, where I first listened to it, what I felt... I remember the whole moment as if it happened yesterday.
- Which song changed your life?
Slow Dancing In A Burning Room (Live in LA). I'd say that the moment I first heard that song was an inflection point regarding my approach to music.
- Which song would you like played at your funeral?
Anchor by Novo Amor. It's pure art.
- What song is stuck in your head right now?
So Free by Bahamas. 7 minutes of the same riff makes it memorable...
- What was the first Album you bought?
Born and Raised by John Mayer
- Which song made you want to play music?
I can't really remember. My parents say that when I was a little kid I would grab the walkman we had and put CD after CD in it and sit down and listen to music for hours. Don't know if it's true but I guess I always wanted to play music.
