Tell us a bit about yourself? I'm a singer-songwriter and pianist based in Brighton. I draw heavy influence from artists such as Steely Dan, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Adele, Andy Shauf but I've also drawn comparisons to Rufus Wainwright and Jamie Cullum.
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest? I love both older jazz/jazz-rock music as well as more modern commercial pop, and in my own music I try to fuse both styles into a Jazz-Pop mix. With everything we record we want it to sound fresh but familiar at the same time, so we keep the production quite retro but have more commercial melody and instrumentation.
What’s your back-story? I really like to tell stories with my songs, and I like having tracks that lead into each other. If I'm being honest you can tell a lot about my love life from looking at my lyrics as thats always a good area to draw from when writing. My last single 'Fantasy' is about me falling in love with a close friend, and dealing with the fall-out from the rejection and frustration, the twist to the cliche love song is that both characters in 'Fantasy' are men. This leads into my next Single 'Better For Me' (Out feb 20th) which follows chronologically from the initial 'in-love' feeling to the aftermath. I also used pictures from the same photo-shoot in the same location for the cover-art for both singles, because I think both tracks should be grouped together in every aspect, they were about a part of my life that I will always associate both the tracks with, when I hear them its like looking back into a frozen moment.
What are you working on at the moment? I have a single out February 20th, with a single launch in Brighton at the Prince Albert on the 20th. I will be on tour around the UK later in the spring, details to be announced very soon! My band and I will also return to the studio in early march to record two further singles.
