Tell us a bit about yourself?
Well my name is Mitchell Neill, I'm an artist from Portsmouth in the UK. I produce all of the stuff I release and I've been making music for roughly 5 years. I have a lot of influences, but I don't really think you can hear them, I love 90s pop, despite the fact I could NEVER make that music lmao.
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest?
Well I think what sets me apart is my lack of restraints when it comes to the structure of the music. A lot of the stuff I write is through written, meaning once something shows up, its not coming back. I'm also not scared to experiment with tonal qualities. My single 'Space!' for example, doesn't have a set key at all. It sort of exists in its own sonic world. I like to see that in music.
What’s your back-story?
I don't really think I have that much a backstory. I'm just a guy from the South of England. I've only existed for 18 years, with much of it being spent in England, I did live in Germany as a child though, so who knows how that affected my music! Maybe it's where I got my deep love of The Vengaboys!
What are you working on at the moment?
CurrentlyI'm working on my debut EP. All of the tracks have a concurrent theme of Space. Space always fascinated me as a child and with the first ever photo of a black hole being taken, was there ever a better time for it? The influences I took for the EP were a lot of film music, films like Psycho inspired the strong string stabs you hear in the single 'Space!'. A lot of pop and country influences are also on the EP, with artists like Charli XCX and Kacey Musgraves influencing tonal structures on the songs.
What's the first song you remember hearing?
Honestly I feel like I should say something really cool, but in reality it was probably something like Cool by Gwen Stefani!!
You're in a Karaoke Bar - What's your go to song?
I know I'd have to drag my friend up there and do 'The Boy is Mine' by Brandy & Monica.
Which song do you wish you'd written? Untouched By the Veronicas... Once again with the strings!!
What was the first Album you bought?
Honestly I don't remember, but it's either Love Angel Music Baby by Gwen Stefani or The Fame by Lady Gaga.
