Nights Out is an indie rock band that was founded by three friends in Ukraine in 2015. Ilya (lead vocals, keys, guitar), Max (lead guitar, keys, backing vocals), and Ihor (drums, percussion) met at the student dorm in L’viv and have been staying and creating together since then. “It was kind of a happy coincidence that became our destiny” they joke. The band played their first show in December 2016. In summer 2016 the band members separated from each other for almost a year due to everyone’s personal reasons. “It was a difficult time for everyone since we all realized at that time that we want to continue making music together” says Ilya.
In 2017 the three fulfilled their dream and reunited again. Together they moved to Germany in the aspiration to grow the project further. At the new place they met Fernando, a professional jazz bassist from Spain who also joined the project. Apart from music, Fernando teaches history and culture as his full-time job at the University of Flensburg where Ilya, Max, and Ihor are currently studying.
The band’s debut EP “Fossil” was released in early 2018 which was recorded right before the departure to the new country. The EP was the result of the band’s first experiments with their sound and, of course, with each other, as they met while sharing a dormitory room as students. As they recall: “It all started with the spontaneous guitar jams on a balcony of an old soviet dorm”.
This fall Nights Out released their new single “Would You Lie” that came out together with a live video. The band is set to release their second single, called “Aquarium” later this year. These two tracks blend together both the inspiration and challenges the band faced after coming to a new country and exploring a new environment. Nights Out has already announced their first “small” German tour, which starts in November this year.
Their music is a mix of juicy guitars, explosive grooves and electronic motifs. The band’s musical influences vary. The musicians mention Bon Iver, Badbadnotgood, Everything Everything, Foals, WhoMadeWho and some electronic projects such as The Floating Points and The Blaze as their main sources of inspiration.
