My music would be described as Indie pop with R'n'B elements. I like to write really catchy chorus' and hooks as well as have a similarity in the verse' that I write. I only recently discovered that I should add some rock elements to the pop music that I make so I would say that is what "my sound" is. My influences come all the way from listening to Queen & rock music all the way to to the likes of modern day chart music. Sanjee is also songwriting for other artists in different genre’s of music. He will be releasing his debut EP in 2018. Using influences from Queen mixed with modern day pop influences, it is very well reflected in his lyrics.
"A singer-songwriter who takes a loop pedal and… well, basically turns into a musical magician. Even if you’re not a musician, you’re bound to be hooked in, and quite envious of his musical ability." - Nusic.org.uk
Engaging, intelligent and formidably talented soloist and loop-pedal performer Sanjee is a master of his craft. As former President of the Music society at Nottingham Trent, he is constantly immersed in, and working with, others musicians’ inspirational sounds… and all of these shine through in his original music. Rhythmic intonation and fast-paced, intelligent lyrics make Sanjee an unstoppable force in the Nottingham scene. No one else quite makes music like this. - Dot To Dot Festival 2017
Tell us a bit about yourself? I was born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland and then moved to London at 16 (also lived in USA for a year when I was 14). I had been playing guitar since I was 12 after learning piano, violin and saxophone but established my love for performing in the East Midlands whilst studying at University. I remember joining the Music Society and performing my first ever solo show which was fucking nerve-wrecking but it went on from there. I'd say after I finished my degree i took the gigging and music to a full-time level realising that this is all I ever wanted to really do. Fuck a 9-5. I went out constantly playing open mics and gigs everyday and getting home a stupid o'clock. But its well worth it and the people you meet. You get to really meet the real world.
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest? I would say some of my songwriting is more open and can be either straight to the point or words that most wouldn't use. A lot of my lyrics are picked up from quotes and sayings that are said on a day-to-day basis.
What’s your back-story? A lot of my songs on my upcoming EP are from experiences whilst being at university. It mainly focuses on love and around wanting love or missing it. The songs are about people I've been with or known with other relevant situations added to it. I've been trying to work on a sound that shows my Queen influences on my music. Hopefully it works...lol
What are you working on at the moment? I'm currently working on my debut EP which is long awaited. A lot of chopping and changing on songs and finding my sound. It will be out in 2018 for sure!
