Learn more about me
Tell us a bit about yourself? My name is Jonathan Foster and I am TALL. Live I am joined by Max Showler (guitar), Danny Moyce (Drums) and Tom Andrews (Bass). I am from a small town in Southern Virginia. I moved to the UK nearly four years ago, where I now live and perform live in London. My influences are pretty vast. I have a great affinity for Buddy Holly and Neil Young. Though a lot of my early musical ventures have roots in punk rock. Black Flag, Minor Threat and East Bay hardcore bands like The Nerve Agents to name a few. I then began to get more and more interested in Psychedelic rock bands like Velvet Underground, Brian Jonestown Massacre and Dead Meadow. Recent years have seen my tastes shift to garage rock, with White Fence, Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall and Meatbodies getting heavy playtime. These influences would heavily shape the sound of TALL.
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest? My music is really hard to place in one little box. There are tons of fun sounds and influences that make up TALL. They are all complementary and quite unique. Maybe it's the American in me that does things a little different than the UK style. I've managed to really get a good group of people to play them with me, who all dig similar music. As long as it's fun, it's right!
What’s your back-story? A lot of my music is usually a commentary on how I see certain things in the world. It's all unique to me and how I feel. A lot of people ask if certain songs are love songs, when they turn out to be anything but. Which is pretty funny. I just like to use colourful language around some uneasy topics.
What are you working on at the moment? Currently I am looking to get a new release out, hopefully some singles and an EP, before looking to do another LP in the coming year. As a band, I hope TALL grows more and more. We hope to get more opportunities to showcase ourselves with some great bands around London and beyond.
