Tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi, we're The Escapades. We're an up and coming band from Newcastle, made up of 4 members ranging across the UK and Northern Ireland. Our band consists of Kieran Taylor (Vocals and lead/rhythm guitar), Oliver Steel (Lead\rhythm guitar), Patrick Kelly (Drums) and Jack Laws (Bass). Kieran and Oliver are originally from East Yorkshire/Humberside. Patrick is from Northern Ireland and Jack is from Newcastle. The band got together in October 2017 and has had one member change since. Our main influences are bands like Oasis, The Strokes and The Verve etc. 90's Brit pop is a big influence to our music and we're hoping to keep the rock 'n' roll vibe alive with out tunes.
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest?
Our goal is to try keep guitar music alive and we're hoping to do this with music influenced by 90's rock and roll. This was a very popular genre and the youth of today never got to witness or appreciate this music to the full.
What’s your back-story?
We've tried to write our songs about things that relate to ourselves in ways, but also that may relate to most people. Just everyday problems or good things that people may go through.
What are you working on at the moment?
We're getting our EP together at the moment. We've got one track recorded and released called Kleptomaniac. We currently have another five songs written but we're just waiting to record them. Once we've recorded we'll be releasing some more singles and then a full EP at the end.
What's the first song you remember hearing?
Cartoons - Witch Doctor.
You're in a Karaoke Bar - What's your go to song?
The last time Oliver (Guitarist) did karaoke, he sang Kiss by Prince. It was a brave choice but he says he 'nailed it'... Kieran's go to is C'est la vie by B*Witched.
What was the first gig you went to?
Oliver's first gig was actually Leeds Festival 2006, (I was 10 years old and my Dad took me to Leeds Fest. It was pretty mint.) Kieran's first gig was Busted...lol.
Which song do you wish you'd written?
Morning Glory by Oasis. What a belter.
Which song changed your life?
In spite of all the danger -The Quarrymen for Kieran as it's the first song he learnt on guitar. (Not Wonderwall). For Oliver, probably something by Muse, seeing them live and watching how great their show was, was really something to remember.
Which song would you like played at your funeral?
We have a few... (touch of comedy)
Highway To Hell
Stairway To Heaven
Stayin' Alive - Beegees
Going Underground - The Jam
Firestarter - The Prodigy
And the countdown theme tune.
What song is stuck in your head right now?
C'est la vie, as Kieran was singing it after the previous question...
What was the first Album you bought?
Oliver - Shania Twain - Come on Over
Kieran - McFly - Room on the Third Floor
Which song made you want to play music?
In Spite of all the Danger (Reason stated previous) and Plug in Baby by Muse.
