An overview
The Long Islands are a three-piece alternative band, which formed in 2015 upon meeting as first years at The University of Nottingham. Despite hailing from various corners of the U.K and having been involved in very different musical outfits beforehand, they have formed a distinctive sound which blends their infatuation with 80s pop and alternative genres.
In 2017, their first record After Hours, named as a testament to how they would meet up in the evenings in order to escape from studies to practice, was released with positive reviews and featured on BBC Introducing in Nottingham. It was recorded in Horley, Surrey over the course of six days with help from Andrew Cheeseman, a student and friend at BIMM Brighton.
The Long Islands are now steadily building profile through their energetic and uniquely composed live sets, whilst working on future material. Daniel Lyons, lead guitarist and vocalist; Matthew Kempa, Drums and backing vocalist and Rhys Thomas, bass, synth, backing vocalist and occasional second guitarist comprise the three members of the band.

There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest?
We're all for moving backwards to move forwards. We're set upon revisiting the 80s to get our sound and feel and bringing it into a more modern indie era.

What’s your back-story?
We met during freshers week at the University of Nottingham. We used to meet in the students union bar before practice and drink far too many (watered down) Long Island cocktails before playing a very messy set in the practice room above the bar. Once our drunken phase was over, we started writing our first EP. All of our material has been created around university hours, hence our latest EPs name "After Hours". It's been an incredible journey writing and performing these songs and we hope people, especially students, can relate to them.

What are you working on at the moment?
We're currently working on a few new singles (Or maybe even another EP if things go well!). We have a few gigs lined up and are branching into some London gigs in the very near future!
