York-based indie rockers The Vedettes are not content to merely imitate those that came before. The quintet’s debut single ‘Silver’ is a mission statement of a band who tread their own path. Drawing inspiration from everyone from The Smiths to Jaws, Mallory Knox to Circa Waves, ‘Silver’ is an atmospheric jaunt of Britbop-by-way-of-alt-rock.
Frontman Simon Hall’s distinctive vocals are supported by the pounding drums of Michele Pascale, interlocking guitarwork of Alfie Gerzimbke and Tim Erimhan and driving bass of James Butterworth. The band have just released their second single, 'Better Than You' and are currently in the process of writing and recording their debut EP, which is set to be released next year.
Their second single, 'Better Than You' was incredibly well received and generated a plethora of Blog Posts surrounding it's release:
'The lyrics penned and explained by Simon Hall denote, “The pain and torture you find yourself in whilst being pinned by a toxic relationship, controlled and so in love with someone you find it hard to let go, irrespective of the pain that follows.” And that the song in the end means, “Finally having the self-belief to say, you know what? I’m better than you and I don’t need you.”' (Born Music Online)
The Vedettes have already seen support from national radio, being listed as Laura Whitmore's 'Track of the Week' during her Sunday Session on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Introducing York.
Forming in early 2018, the band set out to write a collection of massive anthemic indie tunes. Drawing from a diverse song writing talent present between all five members, the band continue to adapt their style in to well developed, energetic, crowd-moshing music with huge riffs and massive groove, which keep the listener festering for more. Recent highlights include a support slot for Serotones in York, playing to over 350 people in a packed out venue and gaining repeated support and radio play from BBC Introducing.
2019 marks a big year for the band, with aims to release their Debut EP independently and play a flurry of shows across the country. With raw passion and a hunger to perform, The Vedettes have a bright future ahead of them.
