Tell us a bit about yourself?
Tops Mafioso is an artist from Greenwich, South London taking another approach to Rap music. Growing up my influences to music were always different. Whilst everyone was listening to 50 Cent (he was also my favourite rapper at the time) but I always chose to be different and would rather listen to Al Green, Lauryn Hill or George Micheal. Something that a normal 12 year old wasn't into at the time of Get Rich or Die Tryin. Being inspired by a range of genres such as RnB,Soul,Gospel,Funk,Afro, Reggae. They all add some spice in creating the Tops Mafioso sound
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest?
Being a fan of music, I always try and put my heart and soul into every vocal, beat break or instrument that is my song. being heavily inspired by artists such as Nina Simone, Fela Kuti and Kanye West who spoke from the heart unapologetically has shown me that being yourself is the only true thing that will set you apart and everyone on earth has a unique fingerprint then surely every artist has a unique sound and story, it's just about being yourself and being true to you.
What’s your back-story?
For me every song is different, when making Candles Into Chandeliers in comparison to Rock the Boat. My mind was in a more solitary state where as Rock the Boat was almost a party in the studio. So for me every song is like a stamp or bookmark in time where I look back and remember how i felt or what I was experiencing at the time similar to the way you would re-read a diary from young and relive your experience from that time.
What are you working on at the moment?
As a creative or as Tops Mafioso lol plans always flunctate depending on feelings, sometimes I cant control the vibes but definetly expected a body of work in the coming months. As soon as I stop being a perfectionist
