Tell us a bit about yourself?
Tropicalpurples is a downtempo/alternative project created in 2014 in Mexico City when I decided to start experimenting with electronic music thanks to the inspiration given by acts such as Tora, Chet Faker and Sohn instead of sticking to the traditional songwriting I was used to (with my acoustic guitar). I released my first demos that same year via Soundcloud before I started studying sound engineering. Once I got into college I started writing and recording "Blooming - Single" which was released in November 2016. In 2017 I started writing and recording the new EP "Empty Roads" which will be out later this year.
There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest?
I started playing my live set as everyone else does.. A computer with my clips/samples, Midi controllers, a guitar and a microphone, but as soon as I started performing more often I realised this method was boring as hell and that I needed to actually DO more with my hands than pressing buttons to play clips in a specific order. That's when I decided to re-invent the live set and started performing an analog hardware - only live performance in which I sync my TR-8 (drum machine) via Midi with the rest of my synths and send them all to my 12 channel mixer to avoid having a computer on stage with me and making the live experience "more alive".
What’s your back-story?
My new EP "Empty Roads" was written around the time when I had to decide if I was staying in my hometown (Mexico city) or if I was leaving in the search of more opportunities for Tropicalpurples. Every song has this nostalgic sense to it as I talk about leaving everything behind to make amends with my dreams while longing for a past in which we did't have to worry.
What are you working on at the moment?
I'm releasing my new EP "Empty Roads" later this year and I'm hoping to move around / do a tiny tour to promote it.
