Based in Liverpool, Wide Eyed Boy are back with another bonafide indie-rock anthem. Two parts British, one part German and one part Australian, this striking four-piece have fully embraced their home’s heritage - from the internationalist culture of the city, to its inevitable musical lineage.
Their latest release ‘Sun Again’ is a powerful, driving track packed full of the snarling urgency that is fast becoming a staple of Wide Eyed Boy’s sound. Once again, Oliver Nagy’s prodigious vocals take centre stage, surrounded by the propulsive drums of Tom Taylor and the huge overdriven guitars of Johnny Ball and Kobi Pham. On the track Taylor says: “It’s about escape. Breaking out of that vicious cycle of mundane life and getting back that sense of freedom to go do whatever the hell you want.”
Having met at McCartney’s LIPA, an institution that is rapidly carving itself out as a hotbed of new musical talent, the band would find themselves bonding over a shared love of Michael Jackson, Bowie and modern Liverpool cult favourites like The Wombats, The Zutons and Circa Waves before deciding to decamp to Budapest to write new songs.
In the short space of time of the boys being together, they have seen themselves touring extensively at sold out shows both in the UK and also Germany with the likes of Feeder, The Rifles and The Riptide Movement. This led on to in the summer of 2017 touring independently in Germany in Berlin, Cologne and more of which saw sell-outs. As a result, the buzz saw Wide Eyed Boy amongst the top 100 German Airplay Charts around impact of their single Loving You Is So Easy.
With their feet firmly on the accelerator towards success, Wide Eyed Boy will embark on a string of huge live show including supporting Feeder at Manchester Academy and Brixton Academy, as well as another run of shows in April and May for the UK’s biggest indie rock club night, Propaganda. ‘Sun Again’ will be released on 7” vinyl through Propaganda Records and will be available online to pre-order over the duration of the shows.
