Every now and again, an explosion of talent occurs that has such effortless force and conviction that it is impossible to ignore.
Young Braves are such a band. Formed in the Summer of 2013 in Shropshire, this alternative rock/indie band (previously Arcade Parade in its incarnation) consists of Ollie Scott (lead vocals/guitar), Jakob Ferguson (lead guitar/synth) and Elliot Scott (bass guitar/backing vocals) and newest member Max Powell (drums).
Previously known as Arcade Parade, the guys have actually been together since 2010 when they were aged between 12 and 15 years old. As Arcade Parade, the band graced the studios of "BBC Introducing Shropshire" several times and won "Shropshire's Next Big Thing" competition in 2012. The band's name change came from a compelling history lesson on the American West and Young Braves were (re)born.
"Youth" was their first single as Young Braves, produced by well regarded producer Gavin Monaghan (Editors, Kings of Leon) and gained much attention and praise, most notably due to their young ages and mature sound and songwriting.
In 2014, in between studying for their A levels, the band opened the OMG! Festival at the 02 Arena in Birmingham to an audience of more than 10,000. Their debut EP was released in December of that year to even more acclaim, leading to being Record of the Day early 2015 and gaining attention from managers to labels alike.
“For The Day” is a striking and beautiful track that showcases the exceptional ability of the teenage band members instrumentation and song writing. The video, which was shot in the beautiful woodlands of Shropshire by Born Music and directed by AJ Davies, almost got the boys arrested (it involved trying to hide a horse…)!
The band had a tremendous year that year. Working hard gigging locally and building their online presence lead to slots at festivals – “The Big Feastival” in particular – and support from their local radio, including “BBC Introducing”. This all led to them being asked to play at THE BLACK KEYS show at the 02 Arena in Birmingham in February 2015 (as well as Fleetwood Mac). Sadly due to an injury to a member of the Black Keys and illness within the Fleetwood Mac camp, the shows were cancelled. Disappointing, yes, but how exciting for a band who had only released their first single! Not only that, their very own Ollie Scott sang backing vocals on the Charlatans album Modern Nature (Deluxe Version). Catch him on the track "Walk With Me". (ROTD)
A member change and a bit of reshuffling and gigging, including support slots with the likes of The Sherlocks and The Amazons in 2017, the band has been working on new material in preparation of making 2018 their biggest year to date. With influences including Pixies, Foals, Radiohead and Kings of Leon, their sound is catchy, exciting and explosive. New single, "Hunters" out now.
