Tell us a bit about yourself?
We are Zola. We're an alt-rock riff machine from Glasgow, Scotland. We like to play music constantly. We currently consist of four dudes named Nick, Kian, Rhys, and Billy. It started when Nick and Kian started jamming together in February 2015. Then Rhys came along and started drumming, and we've had a revolving door of bassists since, but have currently lucked out with Billy at just the right time.

There are a lot of emerging artists in the UK right now. What sets you apart from the rest?
We just go out and do it. This year we wanted to record and release an album by ourselves and play a show at King Tut's. This year we recorded and released an album online, worldwide, by ourselves - and we have a Tut's show on the 11th of December. We just make it happen now. We don't wait. All we want is to play music forever, and whether that's to an audience of 10, 100, 1000, 10000, 100000 people - it doesn't matter to us. What matters to us is that we can play music.

What’s your back-story?
The first record really sets a theme of just establishment of ourselves. We have cringey songs on it like most bands do but we also have stomping screamers. For us it was it was a sense of answering the question, 'just who do you think you are?' We're Zola, that's who. We're a rock band, who have good fuckin' songs and no desire to just go away or stop making noise just because it might not seem like it's worth it. To us it's worth it. We're enjoying being nobody right now. We're definitely living proof of fighting to make something happen and not giving in when it gets tough.

What are you working on at the moment?
We're working on new songs, we're working on festival applications, we're working on getting our shit together in a big, big way so we can keep doing the thing we love and make it the only thing we ever have to be doing.
